Key Values

Meet the health needs of patients in their daily lives

Hygia Pharma Laboratories, founded in Switzerland in 2017, have set itself the task of covering the essential therapeutic areas that meet patients' health needs and physiological functions.
We offer multi-status health solutions, combining medicines and food supplements. Today we are present in analgesia, immunology, pulmonology, functional disorders, and metabolism – nutrition,
and a transversal range meeting the specific needs of women will be marketed in 2024.
Concerned about offering patients efficient and accessible health solutions, we are committed to developing a range of products without a prescription, with or without a prescription (OTC), or freely available in pharmacies in the form of food supplements to offer everyone the choice of a treatment adapted to its pathology and its modes of consumption.

Strategy

Our strategy is based on the observation that many international pharmaceutical companies have decided in recent years to reorganize their portfolios of pharmaceutical specialties and proceed with selling some of them, which no longer correspond to their strategy. These disposals concern both drugs and food supplements, brands, and licenses. The specialties marketed in this way often enjoy a good reputation, but they should be redeployed. Laboratoires Hygia Pharma has thus decided to position itself as a recognized player for the recovery of these portfolios and to develop them by producing locally in the countries where they wish to build.

Excellence at the heart of our strategy

Our desire to put the patient at the center of our developments leads us to capitalize on a long Swiss tradition of pharmaceutical excellence, positioning ourselves within a strategy of high quality, from R&D to the manufacturing of our products, regardless of the therapeutic solution offered.

A demanding manufacturing strategy

Our requirement for formulation is based on the most recent scientific and clinical studies, and maximizes the active ingredient concentrations in our dietary supplements. We select ingredients, APIs, or excipients, and packaging materials, based on their intrinsic qualities and environmental impact. We are strongly committed to adhering to good pharmaceutical practices, making Hygia Pharma Laboratories pioneers, for example in the requirement for stability tests prior to any market release of its dietary supplements, but also in the systematization of pre and post-production tests.
Our industrial exemplary concern allows us to offer, today and tomorrow, coherent product ranges by therapeutic area, in which patients will find the most efficient solutions, regardless of their mode of access.

Focus on permanent R&D

Hygia Pharma Laboratories constantly maintains a product watch on its markets, in order to be able to identify and acquire, or develop, the pharmaceutical specialties that will best meet the needs of its clients in their daily life. Whether it concerns children, adults, or seniors, men or women, Hygia Pharma Laboratories has defined an ambitious development program for the coming years, which will result in the market release of many specialties.

A demanding quality policy

Reflecting the reputation of the Swiss pharmaceutical industry, Laboratoires Hygia Pharma is committed to sourcing the best products according to the highest quality standards, whether APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), nutrients, excipients, or packaging articles.

Many of the company's suppliers are of European origin, reflecting a solid qualitative commitment to the benefit of its customers.

This policy of excellence is reflected in the reputation of the brands owned by Laboratoires Hygia Pharma in its markets.

This quality strategy is also reflected in rigorous and selective protocols for R&D and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for the production part.

Revolutionizing Wellness: The Phenomenal Rise of Nutraceuticals in the Global Market

Nutraceuticals are dietary supplements or functional foods that provide health benefits beyond essential nutrition. They contain various ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, and other bioactive compounds that have demonstrated health-promoting effects.

The advantages of nutraceuticals are numerous. They can address nutrient deficiencies, promote specific health outcomes, offer a natural and safe approach to health and wellness, and provide a cost-effective way to support overall health.

In terms of market share, the global nutraceuticals market size was valued at $382.51 billion in 2020 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3% from 2021 to 2028.

The main difference between a nutraceutical and a drug is their regulation and intended use.

Government agencies, such as the ANPP in Algeria, ANSM in France, or SwissMedic in Switzerland, regulate drugs. They are intended to treat or prevent a specific disease or condition. They undergo rigorous clinical testing to prove safety and efficacy and are only available with a prescription from a healthcare provider.

Nutraceuticals, on the other hand, are not regulated as strictly as drugs even if many health agencies supervise them (Efsa in Europe, Anses in France, Ministry of Health in Algeria, for example) and are intended to bring benefits for health beyond essential nutrition. They don't require the same level of clinical testing and regulation as drugs and are often available over the counter, and can be purchased without a prescription.

Another difference between nutraceuticals and drugs is in their composition. Drugs are often synthetic compounds or chemical substances that are highly potent and targeted to specific biological pathways. On the other hand, nutraceuticals are typically derived from natural sources and contain a range of bioactive compounds that provide health benefits.

While nutraceuticals may not be regulated as strictly as drugs, there are still measures to ensure patient safety and efficacy.

Hygia Pharma Laboratories are actively promoting protocols in which nutraceuticals compensate for the lack of regulation to ensure patient safety:

  1. Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs): we follow GMPs to ensure our products are high quality, safe, and effective. These standards help ensure that the manufacturing process is consistent, that the products are free from contaminants, and meet the label claims.
  2. Third-party testing: we voluntarily submit our products for third-party testing, which involves independent laboratories testing the product for purity, potency, and quality. This provides an extra layer of safety and transparency for patients.
  3. Scientific research: Clinical studies have extensively researched many nutraceuticals to demonstrate their safety and efficacy. These studies can provide patients with confidence in the effectiveness of the product and the safety of its use. We provide these studies to our clients and distributors, as well as to your doctors and pharmacists.
  4. Labeling requirements: We must include specific information on their product labels, including the ingredients, serving size, and any potential side effects or interactions. This information can help patients make informed decisions about the products they are considering.
  5. Healthcare provider guidance: It is always recommended to speak with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen. A healthcare provider can help determine if a nutraceutical is appropriate for a patient's needs and provide guidance on proper dosing and potential side effects. We provide all the relevant information to your healthcare providers.

Hygia Pharma Laboratories own the formulas of their health solutions:

We develop our formulas, following a rigorous process, capable of guaranteeing innovative and high-quality products:

Product Design

We design products adapted to patients' needs, through exchanges and sharing of experiences with healthcare professionals. We elaborate our formulas and concepts, based on clinical work on the active principles of our ingredient suppliers, and specialized partners. This is a lengthy process because developing and bringing an effective and suitable product to the market takes between 12 and 18 months.

Formulation and Prototype

We place great importance on quality and convenience, so we choose the dosage forms that we believe are best suited, the ingredients, and combinations that best meet the chosen therapeutic objective. Our priority is the closest adherence to ESG criteria, but also to have halal, natural ingredients and products accessible to as many people as possible. Our collaborators and advisors bring their expertise and experience throughout this essential phase.

Stability and Quality Testing

Once the formula and the prototype are validated, a pilot batch is produced and put into stability. This stage is important to confirm that the product quality is consistent throughout its shelf life. These tests are not imposed by the regulations for dietary supplements, but they are important to us, as they provide an additional quality guarantee to consumers.

Production and Marketing

Once the stability and quality tests are validated, we start the production of the products but also the packaging articles adapted to the regulatory requirements of each country where we operate. Finally, we entrust our products to our distributor and wholesaler partners, responsible for marketing them to healthcare professionals.
